چکیده

Diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading disabling chronic diseases, and one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in the world. Early diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy enables timely treatment and in order to achieve it a major effort will have to be invested into screening programs and especially into automated screening programs. For automated screening programs to work robustly efficient image processing and analysis algorithms have to be developed. This work examines recent literature on digital image processing in the field of early detection of diabetic retinopathy using fundus photographs. Algorithms were categorized into 5 groups (image preprocessing, localization and segmentation of the optic disk, segmentation of the retinal vasculature, localization of the macula and fovea, localization and segmentation of diabetic retinopathy pathologies). Diabetic retinopathy pathologies were further categorized into several groups. In this paper several different databases are presented and their characteristics discussed. Keywords—diabetic retinopathy, image processing, image analysis, optic disk localization, blood vessel segmentation, microaneurysms, exudates, hemorrhages, neovascularization

Automated detection of fundus photographic red lesions in diabetic retinopathy.

PURPOSE To compare a fundus image-analysis algorithm for automated detection of hemorrhages and microaneurysms with visual detection of retinopathy in patients with diabetes. METHODS Four hundred fundus photographs (35-mm color transparencies) were obtained in 200 eyes of 100 patients with diabetes who were randomly selected from the Welsh Community Diabetic Retinopathy Study. A gold standard...

Assessment of non-mydriatic fundus photography in detection of diabetic retinopathy.

Non-mydriatic retinal photography with later interpretation of the photographs was assessed as a screening method for the detection of diabetic retinopathy; when compared with an ophthalmologist's clinical assessment in a random group of 62 diabetic patients it was accurate (false negative 6.8%, false positive 2%) and sensitive (sensitivity 96%, specificity 98%). The assessment of further manag...

Automatic Detection of Microaneurysms in Color Fundus Images using a Local Radon Transform Method

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most serious and most frequent eye diseases in the world and the most common cause of blindness in adults between 20 and 60 years of age. Following 15 years of diabetes, about 2% of the diabetic patients are blind and 10% suffer from vision impairment due to DR complications. This paper addresses the automatic detection of microaneurysms (MA...

Early Detection of Diabetic Retinopathy in Fluorescent Angiography Retinal Images Using Image Processing Methods

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the single largest cause of sight loss and blindness in the working age population of Western countries; it is the most common cause of blindness in adults between 20 and 60 years of age. Early diagnosis of DR is critical for preventing vision loss so early detection of microaneurysms (MAs) as the first signs of DR is important. This paper addresses th...

Diagnosis of Diabetic Retinopathy Using Processing of Fundus Images and Morphological Techniques

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy is the damaging effect of diabetes on retinal blood vessels that can cause blindness when diagnosed late. Microaneurysms are early signs of the disease that their early diagnosis promotes timely treatment and prevents disease progression. Since this disease is asymptomatic and can only be detected by ophthalmologists, diabetic patients should be tested regular...
